Outdoor Alliance’s board and staff at Trestles Beach, California, at our recent board meeting.

Outdoor Alliance is pleased to announce Katherine Tsai as incoming President of Outdoor Alliance’s Board of Directors. Katherine Tsai has served on the board of Outdoor Alliance since April 2018 and has served in the role of Vice Chair since July 2021. Katherine replaces Luther Propst, who has served as Outdoor Alliance’s board chair since 2013 and will remain on the board as a general member.

Katherine Tsai is an attorney in Silicon Valley, where she builds great user experiences with her colleagues on weekdays and soaks up the California outdoors on weekends. She currently serves as a Director, Associate General Counsel at Quora, Inc., counseling on corporate, monetization, marketing, privacy, and open source matters. She’s an avid rock climber, hiker, camper, and amateur van-lifer. Katherine also serves on the board of Sustainable Learning. On her election to Board Chair, Katherine said, “I am thrilled to support Outdoor Alliance and its mission to protect our public lands by uniting the human-powered outdoor recreation community. Outdoor Alliance staff, board of directors, and coalition of member organizations have had an outsized impact on public lands policy. I'm grateful to Luther Propst for his leadership and Outdoor Alliance alumni for their significant contributions over the years. Today, we have a critical opportunity to fight the climate crisis, ensure sustainable and equitable access to public lands and waters, and amplify the voices of an inclusive outdoor community. I'm humbled to serve Outdoor Alliance as chair as we tackle these issues together.”

Adam Cramer, CEO of Outdoor Alliance, said “Katherine has been an invaluable part of our board for the last four years. She brings an amazing combination of strategic thought and intellectual rigor with a wellspring of passion for our mission and truly gracious leadership style. She led the charge on strategic planning, new development initiatives, and is always down to be a savvy advocate for the cause. We are grateful to have her at the helm and excited to see what we can do in the coming years."

Outdoor Alliance also welcomes two new board members, Jenni Henry and Brian Joyner. Jenni Henry is the Chief Development Officer at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, a nonprofit organization with a mission of guaranteeing all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. Jenni has nearly 20 years of nonprofit fund development experience and is an active member of the D.C. chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In her spare time, Jenni coaches a Special Olympics swim team and sings with a D.C.-area choir. Jenni enjoys hiking, swimming, bike riding, cooking, and traveling, and loves to see and enjoy as much of the outdoors as possible. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia. Jenni shared, “I have been a big fan of the Outdoor Alliance for a long time, and am so honored to join the Board and help the organization ensure that public lands are accessible and well-managed—an issue I care deeply about.”

Brian Joyner is a resource management professional with extensive experience in public history, engaging communities, working collaboratively with internal and external partners, and managing complex projects. He currently serves as Deputy Superintendent for Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC. Since 2000, Joyner has worked for the National Park Service. During his tenure, he has researched diverse and underserved communities as related to historic preservation and public history, served as management assistant to a regional director and to the Deputy Director of the NPS, and has been acting superintendent at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park. Prior to working with the National Mall, Joyner was one of the two 2015-2016 Bevinetto Fellows for the NPS, serving on the House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee.
