About Us

Outdoor Alliance is the only organization in the U.S. that unites the voices of outdoor enthusiasts to conserve public lands. We help ensure those lands are managed in a way that embraces the human-powered experience.

We are a nonprofit coalition of national advocacy organizations that includes American Whitewater, American Canoe Association, Access Fund, International Mountain Bicycling Association, Winter Wildlands Alliance, the Mountaineers, the American Alpine Club, the Mazamas, the Colorado Mountain Club, and the Surfrider Foundation. And we also rely on the involvement of individuals like you.

Outdoor Alliance mobilizes the power of all outdoor enthusiasts to protect public lands and waters. Public land and conservation policy is complex and Outdoor Alliance knows how to effect meaningful change. We do the hard work, ensuring that we’re not just talking but making a measurable impact on all public lands and waters. That means building relationships with decision makers, enthusiasts, and activists to preserve trails, create new legislation, share maps, and empower others to protect the places in their backyards and beyond.

It’s type 2 fun, but the outdoor recreation community has plenty of motivation to make sure special places will be around for generations to come.

Outdoor Alliance. Conservation powered by outdoor recreation.

Our Mission

Our mission is to unite the voices of outdoor enthusiasts to protect the human-powered outdoor recreation experience and conserve America’s public lands.

Our Vision

Our vision is a united and inclusive human-powered recreation community that harnesses their passion for outdoor adventure to conserve America’s public lands.

Our Values

1. Outdoor places matter. The outdoors have intrinsic value, but also social value. Habitat, clean air, clean water, and the mere existence of outdoor places matter. So, too, do the experiences these places make possible for people.

2. We care deeply for the places we know. When we ski, hike, climb, paddle, and bike, we become more connected to the outdoors and more committed to caring for these places. This connection will power the future of conservation.

3. United we are stronger. When we unite our community’s distinct and powerful voice and leverage our collective knowledge of the outdoors, we make a bigger difference in protecting the wild places that we love.

4. Public lands belong to us all. Together, Americans own, enjoy, and are collectively responsible for millions of acres of public land. The majority of outdoor recreation happens on public lands. These beautiful places set America apart, and we believe in sustaining them for future generations.

5. There’s room for everyone. Public lands mean different things to different people. We need robust civic engagement to determine which places require special protection and which are important for supporting other uses.
