Today, with your help, we’re launching a vision for the future of our public lands and waters.

Public lands are a uniquely American treasure and one of our country’s best and most popular ideas. Almost 150 million Americans get outside each year, and 95% of Americans want to see parks protected for the future. Public lands and waters are a source of joy – the places we get outside with our families and friends, challenge ourselves, and reconnect—and they’re a huge part of what makes our communities healthy, enjoyable, and economically vibrant.

Despite that, recent years have seemed like a constant game of whac-a-mole just to maintain the status quo. We’ve defended public lands from the public land heist, from attacks on the public process, from attempts to dismantle foundational conservation legislation, and from roll backs of national monuments. Even as recreation has become more popular, there is less funding for parks and public lands, putting a strain on our favorite places. And as climate issues become more urgent, public lands have an important role to play in mitigating the effects of global warming and providing reliable sources of clean air and clean water.

All of which got us thinking: if public lands and waters are so popular, so important, and so foundational to who we are as a country, where is the vision for protecting them? Why are we spending nearly all our time fighting back threat after threat when we should be pursuing an ambitious vision for public lands and the future so many of us want?

Now is the time to act. With our partners, we’ve crafted a vision for the public lands and waters future we want to live in,  for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. It’s an ambitious view of a country where trails run out every back door. Where you can swim in every lake and river. Where kids bike out of every driveway. Where rivers run free, mountaintops hold snow, and pristine seashores stretch indefinitely.

We think it’s possible, and now is the time to pursue it. Sign the Public Lands Pledge today to stand up for the future of public lands and waters, for the belief that we can do better in protecting the places we love and building a world we’re excited to live in and explore.

The outdoor community has the power to make this vision a reality. Our goal is to collect the signatures of 10,000+ individuals, organizations, and brands that care about outdoor recreation. Outdoor Alliance will then deliver your comments to decision-makers in Washington D.C. in early 2020, including to:

  • The current administration and all presidential candidates running in 2020.

  • Land-management agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service.

  • A broad spectrum of policymakers and influencers.

The more pledge signatures we have, the stronger our impact. This campaign is designed to elevate public lands, waters, and the environment - issues that a large majority of Americans care about - in America’s political discourse ahead of the 2020 elections.
