Where do you live and what do you like to do outdoors?
I live on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. I have two young daughters (5 and 8) and enjoy exploring anywhere in the outdoors with them, especially some of our favorite trails and rivers in or near Shenandoah National Park.
What outdoor policy issues are most important to you?
There are several areas within the outdoor policy space that are particularly important to me, including ensuring everyone has access to outdoor spaces, the protection of public lands (including meaningful federal investment), and the intersection of the outdoors and health.
What inspired you to join the Outdoor Alliance board, and what do you hope to contribute?
The Outdoor Alliance team and the important work they do is really the reason why I am so excited about joining the board. I have long admired the sophisticated policy team and leadership of Outdoor Alliance. They not only do really good work, but they dig deep to understand the issues and provide meaningful, sophisticated, and innovative solutions. I hope to contribute my own insight around the outdoor policy landscape and work with the board to grow the number of people who are engaging in these important issues alongside Outdoor Alliance.
What is your current favorite place to go outside?
I grew up in Naples, Florida and spent much of childhood exploring Everglades National Park and the neighboring 10,000 Islands. When I first worked for the Senate, I was fortunate to work on Everglades restoration policy and later started the Everglades Caucus in the House of Representatives. It is a unique and precious ecosystem that I was fortunate to be connected with.
