The White House announced it will launch an “American Climate Corps” to put more than 20,000 young people to work restoring public lands, addressing the climate crisis, and deploying clean energy projects.

For years, Outdoor Alliance has advocated for the creation of a 21st century conservation corps as a win-win for creating good jobs and rebuilding outdoor infrastructure. In the 1930’s, President Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) employed millions of men during the Great Depression building outdoor infrastructure that is still in use today.

Demand for outdoor recreation is high, and public lands and waters need resources to be maintained and protected. Climate change threatens public lands, outdoor recreation access, and communities. The administration’s American Climate Corps will provide good jobs and investment in outdoor infrastructure and climate resiliency.

Adam Cramer, CEO of Outdoor Alliance, said “Outdoor Alliance is thrilled to see the President take executive action today to launch the American Climate Corps. This excellent idea will tackle overlapping problems, offering good jobs for young people addressing climate change, demand for outdoor recreation, and aging outdoor recreation infrastructure. The American Climate Corps is a shrewd investment in future generations and the future of our public lands.”
